What is Ion Exchange Mechanism?
It is well known that chemical strengthening is to soak glass into KNO3, under high temperature, K+ exchanges Na+ from glass surface and result in strengthening effect. That will not be changed or disappeared by external forcers, environment or time, except glass itself broken.
Similar to chemical strengthening process, Antimicrobial glass uses ion exchange mechanism to implant silver ion into glass. That antimicrobial function will not be easily removed by external factors and it effective for a longer lifetime usage.
